Land of Sundara Our Story — behind-the-scenes photoshoot image

Adornment as armour. Ancient by nature.

The idea was born in India — in the feeling of being covered, constrained, unable to move through the world the way I was used to. In conservative places where my usual clothing felt impossible, I noticed something quietly slipping away: the connection to my own body, my sensuality, myself.

Jewellery filled that space. A cuff at the wrist. Hammered gold catching light at the throat. Each morning, adorning myself felt like putting on armour — feminine, present, protected. I understood something ancient women have always known: the way we choose to adorn ourselves is an act of sovereignty.

I gave that feeling a name: Sundara. Not a place on any map, but a land that exists somewhere between memory and myth — built from every culture that has ever understood adornment as power. Each collection is a new chapter, its goddess drawn from a real place I've travelled to, her jewellery shaped by the hands and traditions I found there.

A life between worlds

For the last ten years I've travelled as a photographer and documentarian, drawn to places where culture is still handmade and passed down through the hands of elders rather than machines: Berber silver forged in Essaouira, Morocco. Hand-hammered neckpieces in the hill villages of Laos. Brushed brass cuffs in Egypt. Delicate Himalayan chains carrying Tibetan and Nepalese trinkets.

One piece stopped me completely: the Rajasthani ankle cuff, worn to ward off snakes — the sound alone said to keep them away. Protection made beautiful, power made wearable.

Every piece in a Land of Sundara collection is designed by hand or sourced from artisans I met on these travels — brass, hand-finished, gold- or silver-plated. Nothing mass-produced, nothing without meaning.

The world as a muse

Each collection is built around a woman — a goddess from a mystical land, imagined or half-remembered — shot on location in the countries I've visited. I didn't set out to build a jewellery brand. I set out to document beauty, and Land of Sundara grew from that impulse.
